The 2025 Vaka season has begun

For the fourth year in a row, the Okeanos Foundation for the Sea is offering OceanCamps off the coast of southern France on our traditional Polynesian catamaran Vaka Okeanos through the youth initiative “Waves of Action”. Ten camps for a total of 70 teenagers and young adults will take place again this year. Both at the BaseCamp, which the participants attend in advance for intensive content preparation, and on board the Vaka, enthusiastic young people come together who are united by one thing above all: Their love of the ocean and their desire to contribute to the protection of marine ecosystems.

Vaka Okeanos has been on her way to Nice from her winter quarters in Sete on the southern French coast since the end of May. There she will first be moored in the harbour of Nice for the UN Ocean Conference before the first participants from Germany arrive in June. This year, the season starts with two special camps. The Young DGAP will kick things off with a focus on ocean governance. The GreenD Summer School, on the other hand, brings together design students who have set themselves the goal of reforming product design programmes and making sustainability a central concern.
