New OceanCamps in Sweden

The Okeanos Foundation for the Sea has been running OceanCamps on the coast of southern France for several years. On board our Polynesian catamaran Vaka Okeanos, young people aged 16-21 are given the opportunity to explore the Pelagos whale sanctuary off the coast of southern France. Building on the success of these camps and the participants’ desire to experience more camps and learn about other marine ecosystems, the foundation has developed the OceanCamps Sweden pilot project in 2025. On the west coast of Sweden, in the middle of a Natura 2000 area, OceanCamp participants can learn more about marine ecology, education for inner development and sustainability. With various opportunities to experience the sea, learn about it and take action, the camps are accompanied by experts. For example, participants visit the Tjärnö Marine Laboratory at the University of Gothenburg, start-ups for sustainable seaweed cultivation, recycling centres for marine litter and other projects. In the protected area itself, they lend a hand under the guidance of local rangers and explore the marine ecosystem by kayaking, snorkelling and sailing.
