First mail delivery in Micronesia by Vaka Motus

in category Pohnpei, Uncategorized, Yap

The Postal Service of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) has partnered with Okeanos to deliver Christmas mail to the Outer Islands of Yap and Pohnpei. The FSM Postal Service accepted and sent the mail in the same manner as mail sent abroad, and Okeanos crew in collaboration with the Postal Services staff loaded the Christmas packages on the Vaka Motus.

On December 10th, Okeanos Messenger departed Pohnpei to the islands of Sapwuahfik, Nukuoro, and Kapingamarangi and delivered Christmas packages to all southern Outer Islands of Pohnpei. On December 16th, the Postal Service of the FSM set sail from Yap with Okeanos Ambassador and Okeanos Waaqab eastward towards the neighboring islands of Yap State servicing all remote Outer Islands on their way.

After successfully bringing some Christmas joy to the Outer Islands, Okeanos and the FSM Postal Services are currently exploring ways to enter into a long term partnership.
