BaseCamp – new development

After several years of OceanCamps in the south of France, a reorganisation was planned for 2025. All participants of the France camps come together in the so-called BaseCamp to be intensively prepared for content, processes and group dynamics in a large community for a week. The idea arose not least from feedback from participants in recent years.

In the past, OceanCamp participants first spent a week full of workshops on a campsite in the south of France to prepare for the content, before sailing for a week on the Vaka Okeanos.

In April 2025, we brought all participants of this camp year to the BaseCamp on the Baltic Sea for the first time. This meant that the respective camp groups had already completed the first stage of their OceanCamp when they travelled to France for ten days to sail and learn on the Vaka Okeanos. The focus of the content remains the same. They continue to focus on marine ecology, education for sustainable development, and education for inner development.

The participants of the new BaseCamp were particularly positive about the fact that they were able to get to know not only their camp group, but all the participants of the entire year. For the Okeanos team, the reorganisation enabled us to focus on the OceanCamps in France and Sweden in 2025. And last but not least, the new venue in Germany even enabled us to welcome inspiring personalities such as Professor Dr Markus Rex and Christian Weigand to the Baltic Sea.
