The Okeanos community is about empowering people, especially women. I encourage women to get on this journey and together we will do amazing things.
– Aunofo Havea
President, Tonga Voyaging Society
In our efforts to support Pacific sustainability goals, Okeanos Foundation for Sea collaborates with a wide range of Voyaging Societies as well as local and international conservation, research and environmental policy organizations and agencies.
Over the past decade, Okeanos has designed and built eight open-ocean, double masted sailing canoes called ‘Vaka Moanas’. Four of these where gifted to traditional voyaging societies in Fiji, Samoa, Cook Islands and Tahiti and four were purchased by traditional voyaging societies in New Zealand and Hawai’i.
